If try to see the my xml site map created with the Yoast plugin I get this message in FireFox – Error loading stylesheet: Parsing an XSLT stylesheet failed.

In Chrome I just get a blank page.

The site map is still there and Google through the Search Console still sees the site map and it seems to be doing it’s job just fine, so it’s more an annoying problem than a critical one. Still, I would like to click the button in Yoast and see the site map.

I have tried deactivating the site’s plugins and that doesn’t solve the problem.

This issue typically occurs due to the cache. Please, refer to our this knowledge base guide which shows exactly how to go about troubleshoot this issue.

Thanks for the reply. Good news and bad news.

Bad News. I entered the string just as described in the article and that did not fix the problem. The parsing error was still there.

Good News. I then disabled WP SuperCache and that is the problem. With WP Super Cache disabled, the XML site map shows up just as it should. And forget about me disabling all of the plugins. I guess I missed the one that counted.

Just for the record, the string I entered is
    sitemap(_index)?\.xml(\.gz)?
    ([a-z0-9_\-]+)?sitemap\.xsl
    [a-z0-9_\-]+-sitemap([0-9]+)?\.xml(\.gz)?

Is that correct? I did keep in the default entries:
    wp-.*\.php
    index\.php

Thanks for you help. A bit closer to resolving the problem.

I should also note that the site’s favicon shows up again in a Chrome tab if WP Super Cache is deactivated.

We can confirm that you have used the correct regular expression in WP Super Cache plugin to exclude the sitemap. Unfortunately, we are not sure why the provided regular expression didn’t work for you. We recommend you please reach out the WP Super Cache plugin developer assistance. They’d be the best place to assist you in order to exclude the sitemap from caching.
