• Hi,

I hope somebody can give me a hint for my problem. I?′m using WordPress 1.2.1 (I have to use this version, because my hosting company pre-installed it). I want to change the default theme. I?′ve looked up the FAQs, and I know I have to go to the presentation screen. But there isn?′t such a folder. I just have a “Templates” Folder in der Menu-Bar. And I can only change the current html of the current template there. But how to install a new theme? Thank you for your help.

  • Well,….. most directions you find are going to be for 1.5.X. I’d recommend upgrading to the latest 1.5 version. Since your host pre-installed it for you,m you may want to see if they will upgrade it for your, or get FTP access and do it yourself.

Messing around with that rather outdated version is pointless honestly. Call your hoster to install the latest version for you. This isnt about to not-help-you, but think about security. What use has a newly themed blog with all your work in it, if it could get exploited/hacked by some idiot cause its an old version? I think you should update first and then look for cool new themes. and solving one problem fixes the other. just write them a mail. theyve been so kind in the first place.. why not ask for a upgrade.

edit: n dont forget to backup your database ?? better save then sorry. who knows what those guys will do for that upgrade. if they do a fresh install everything is gone. just a hint. doh!

“I?′ve looked up the FAQs, and I know I have to go to the presentation screen.”

The “FAQ’s” you have looked up are for WP1.5.2

WP 1.2 doesn’t have a presentation page or themes. WP 1.2 uses style sheets (CSS) that can be swapped out. A good list is Alex Kings

If for some reason you can’t or won’t upgrade to WP 1.5.2 look through those WP styles, dowload the one you prefer and swap out your current style sheet and the images.

Having said all that PLEASE upgrade to WP 1.5.2 It is by far easier to work with, has many themes and is more secure.
