Trying to install the Themia Lite theme. I following the instructions exactly but when I activated it I now ge the following error and cannot get into the site, not even the admin page to disable the theme.

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘}’ in /home/jtechpro/public_html/soeasy/wp-content/themes/themia-lite/functions/inkthemes-functions.php on line 1

Any idea what’s wrong and how I disable the theme?

  • Interesting. The developer did not test his work and now you are stuck with an error.

Not to worry. What I did when this happened to me was delete the directory for that theme in my wp-content/themes directory and as a default, the twentyeleven theme will become your new theme, which acts as a backup.

To delete the Themia Lite theme, you need FTP access.

    I hope this helps,
    Bruce

Try switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming:

    wp-content/themes/themia-lite

    to:

    wp-content/themes/themia-lite-old

using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides. That should get you back into your site.

Thank You. I do have FTP access and can delete the directory for the theme. I will try to contact the creator of the theme to get it working.

Thank you again for your help.

Actually that is grossly unfair. Not only do all themes hosted on WPORG undergo a manual review (even for theme updates) but I downloaded the theme in question and it works just fine. The most likely cause for this was a corrupted download.

Thank You for checking it. I will download again and see what happens. Now that I know how to recover from the error.

Deleted everything and downloaded again but get the same error.

Try installing the theme manually using FTP.

    That’s how I installed it.

    From a fresh download?

Yes, it was a fresh download.

I installed using the tool within WordPress and that seems to have worked.

    Thank you for your help

Sorry about that, Esmi. Take it back. ?? I never thought about interrupted downloads. Good to know in case this happens again.
