problem with webp images

This blog post suggests that Outlook supports .webp, but I don’t think it does, natively. When you insert a webp image in Outlook itself it is converted to .png

Does this mean I cannot use webp for featured images or are there other solutions?

Unfortunately, as you’ve mentioned, this format is still not supported by some email clients, such as Gmail, unfortunately.

In this case, if you want to improve the chances of having the images in your newsletters displayed properly on most of the email clients, you should avoid using WebP images for featured images for now.

That’s sad. This means that I cannot use one of those image optimizer plugins that convert everything to webp. But thanks for clarifying, @bruberries
