Problem with WP-PAGINATE since upgrade

Hopefully one of the script gods can assist me. I had a blog designed and the designer put in WP-Paginate instead of simply designing a sidebar.

All was fine until I upgraded to 2.0.6 — all of a sudden my blog showed all 58 posts rather than 10 as it is set for. Today I upgraded to Ella and figured it would fix it; it didn’t. So, one by one I deactivated the plugins. As soon as I deactivated WP-Paginate the blog showed just 10 posts, though my entire sidebar was gone.

Is there a “fix” to make this plugin work with Ella? I tried to contact the designer to ask him to fix thing, that is to dump the plugin and simply rebuild the blog with a normal sidebar, but so far no response, and I’m frustrated at having a broken blog.
