Hello, I’m a long-time user of Duplicator, it’s totally integral to my work flow. Thank you for such a useful tool.

Recently, I’ve been getting an odd issue of an unwanted period “.” appearing in front of my package name – since 0.4.6. I have to delete the period every time I create a package, so that it has a valid filename.

In addition, after I upgraded to 0.5.1, the period still appears, and even after I delete it, the created package has the period. When I click on the download button for the archive, it takes me to a 404 page on my site, I assume because of the invalid filename.

For now, I’ve reverted to 0.4.6, which still works – I have to delete the period every time, but at least I can download the package.

Strange issue, and I believe I’m experiencing it on several sites with different configurations, theme, plugins, etc.

  • Hey Elliot,

That is quite strange… So if you give the package a same such as ‘mypackage’ then the output is

    .mypackage.zip

I have never seen that issue before. Can you reproduce this issue on a different server or is it only one specific server its happening on?

    Thanks~

Basically, yes – the default package name starts with the date:

    .20140206_siteslug

The period at the beginning started appearing some time ago, for each new package. Since then I’ve just been deleting it before proceeding – but, with the update to 0.5.1, even after I delete it, the created package name starts with a period, making the download link not valid.

Really strange. I’ll see if I can recreate the issue on a fresh install and let you know what other details I can find.

You might also want to clear the cache on your browser or maybe even try a different browser. Let me know how it goes…

I’ve actually found that the issue is only on a couple of my sites, and they’re modified clones of each other. So, I believe it’s specific to that configuration. I’ll write more if I narrow it down further.

Thank you for the response. I really appreciate this plugin, it’s an indispensable tool.

    Hey Elliot,

If you can give the developer version a try I added two new reset buttons for the name, they may help out. The very latest version (0.5.2) can be found by following these instructions:

    -> Browse to https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/duplicator/developers/
-> Look for the section “Other Versions”
-> Click on “Development Version” and download the zip plugin file
-> Uninstall your current version and install this one
-> Note: This is a development line version so please test in your sandbox first to make sure you have no issues…

Let me know if this solves your issue…

    Thanks

Hello, thank you very much for following up on this. It is resolved in the latest version 0.5.2. The period persisted for one package, then after performing cleanup (deleting legacy settings) it is gone. As far as I can see, all other sites duplicate as usual. Wonderful, I appreciate your help. Once again, great plugin, I can’t imagine developing on WordPress without it.

    Thanks for the update Elliot!
