    Hi,

I am having problems when trying to use emojis in title or description tags using SEO By Yoast plugin. I place the emoji in the tag, then I click save/update, it gets saved or updated but the title reverts back to the previous one (without emojis).

This is something happening in some of my sites.

Any ideas why this could be happening?

  • Hi,

We would like some more information.

    1. Can you let us know which Emojis are not saving? Is it all of them or just a couple?

    2. Is it only happening on certain pages or everywhere?

    3. Can you confirm you are using WordPress 5.0.3? You can check by clicking on the W in the top left and selecting About. If you need to update, please check with your host provider.?Please know that if you are using an older version of WordPress Core you may experience unexpected behavior with Yoast.?This guide explains more:?https://yoast.com/why-we-dont-support-old-wordpress-versions/.

    4. Can you confirm you are using the most recent Yoast SEO, v9.5? If you update, does the issue resolve?

    Hi @pcosta88

So the issue had to do with database I assume. In some of my sites I was able to use Emojis + SEO By Yoast without a problem. In other sites I was not able. So in the sites that I was not able to, I used the HEX code instead for the Emoji, which I found here: https://www.iemoji.com.

For example, for this Emoji: ??, the corresponding HEX code is: & # x 1 f 9 1 6 ; (putting all the characters together)

Once placed the HEX code and clicked on Save/Update post, the Emoji was saved OK.

Based on these facts, do you think it has to do with DB encoding? If so, how can I “update” my databases so that they can recognize Emojis directly, without using the HEX code?

    Thanks

    Hi @agb58

While we are not familiar with how your database is setup, it’s best to contact your server admin or webhost to “update” your database.

What’s the correct database encoding to save Emojis correctly?

    Hi,

We are not familiar with your server or database set-up so we are unable to say what the correct encoding is on your site. We can only say to contact your host provider and ask them to use an emoji friendly collation for database tables.
