After the update today, Yoast SEO notified that we need to “Count Links”. For several sites I manage this worked just fine, but for a handful it froze in the middle and now it won’t start over again, saying that I need to manually create the tables.

When I look in the database, those tables were already created. I truncated them but now when I go back to click on “Count Links” again, nothing happens. Apparently the feature is disabled and I can’t find anywhere to “enable” it… what’s the next step?

    Thanks

  • I’m having a similar issue with the count links feature. Mine didn’t freeze, but completed its task and went all the way to the end.

However, now I’m told that the feature has been disabled because Yoast couldn’t create the required mysql database tables and instructs me to manually ad them.

When checking my database, I can see those tables are there (both filled with data). But since the Yoast plugin seems like it can’t access them, it has disabled the feature and I too cannot find anyway to enable it.

An article about this issue has just been created. You can check it here:
    https://kb.yoast.com/kb/error-link-statistics-disabled/

If the relevant tables are already created in your database and you’re still seeing the error in the plugin related to the new Text Link Counter feature, you’ll need to wait for a while (i.e. one hour) and the error will just disappear eventually.

    Thanks @jerparx

I’ve been gradually retrying these as the buttons come back throughout the day (cache clearing?). There are now just two sites where the progress bar doesn’t move (just sits at 0 of 435 or whatever). However, when I checked the database, those tables have filled with data. This seems to be an issue with the progress bar and notifications on some server configurations, rather than any of the actual functionality behind it.

Hi, I have the same issue reported.
I have already updated the plugin in five different installations and only one shows that problem. Tables were created correctly but a notification says:

The Text link counter feature (introduced in Yoast SEO 5.0) is currently disabled. For this feature to work Yoast SEO needs to create a table in your database. We were unable to create this table automatically.

But tables were created in a correct way.
Anyways, I deleted the two tables and re-created them with command line instruction in phpmyadmin, as suggested. I cleaned the cache, logged again in WP but nothing changes.

3 of the five sites in which I updated the plugin are hosted on the same server with the same DBs, but only one (one of my personal sites) shows this problem.

@omd10 – i have exactly the same problem. 3 sites are working ok w/o any problem after first run, one site not. Tables are created corectly, in both are some data, but the text link counter feature is currently disabled.

Update: I’ve just refreshed (F5) (again) the Notification Page in WP and… this time issue disappered. In “General” Yoast page, now I have the green check and “Good job! All the links in your texts have been counted.”

After cca 1 hour it is OK now, w/o any intervention from me. It’s strange…

    Same problem here.
I don’t get an error message but progress bar is empty and it stucks at “Text of 189 processed.”. Deleted cache, refreshed page nothing helped yet.

In the Yoast SEO 5.0, we’ve introduced a new feature: the Text Link Counter. For this feature to work Yoast SEO needs to create two tables in your database.

However, if the text link counter isn’t working for you, please reach out your web hosting provider and request them to create the table in your website database manually. You can find more information about this here.

However, if you’re unable to create the table in your database manually by reaching out your web hosting provider, you’ll need to create the database table manually. If you’ve already created the database manually and you’re still seeing the error in our plugin related to the new Text Link Counter feature, you’ll need to wait for a while (i.e. one hour) and the error will be disappeared automatically.

    Hi

    Same issue as @gabberkopf

I don’t understand what @mazedulislamkhan said… or rather: I do not want to understand..
What ? YOAST introduce a new features that do not work for everybody, and what ? We have to create table in database?
    > Is it a joke?!

    EDIT: I read this: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/error-link-statistics-disabled/
    – Those 2 tables are created in my database
    – All transients (expired or not) hav been deleted
I click agin you famous button, but nothing move.
