    Hello everyone,

This is my first post to the WordPress forums, so I’m not exactly sure how everything works, but I will lay out my problem to the best of my abilities:

I was recently tasked with “modernizing” our local golf course’s website, as it really hasn’t been touched in awhile and looks dated. I was given the word press login credentials, and I logged in. To my surprise, the website still uses version 3.5.1 of WordPress! However, I cannot update it because the account given to me is not an administrator. I asked the person in charge to use the administrator account, and they said this is the only account they have access to. The person who set up the website originally, not sure how long ago but it was over 5+ years ago, gave access to just this account; he is no longer with the golf course and has not been for over 4 years, so contacting him is not an option.

Also, when I tried logging into these forms with the account and password given to me, it would not let me and said the password was incorrect, even though it works for logging onto the site, so I am using my personal WordPress account. The account is able to log into the website via direct link, and I can make and remove posts, make and remove page, along with a few other things, but I cannot change the theme, access any administration powers, or update the site. Our golf course would like me to take care the site from now on, and I’m really stuck as to how to move forward. I’m inquiring today to ask the following questions:

    1) Is it possible to transfer administrative powers to another account because the actually administrator account is no longer accessible?
    2) If not, what steps can be taken to get access to this website?

    [removed redundant link]

    Thanks in advance,
    Caleb

This article lists 7 completely different ways to reset your password. Any one of them will work and do the job. Find the one that’s right for you and use that: https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/resetting-your-password/

Using the PHPMYADMIN method, locate the admin user’s account. (It may have the ID of “1”.) Reset the password, login as the admin, and make your own account and admininistrator.

    Hey Steve,

Sorry if I wasn’t clear in my original post, but I do not have access to any databases. The account to log in with just goes to the dashboard of the website, and doesn’t have any administrative powers. I’m not sure how to move forward with that.

Right. You need to login to the host. Contact them. Your organization is paying them, so you should have access. Please read the link carefully.

To answer your next question, the host seems to be “monstercommerce.com”.
