    Hi. I′m reinstalling wordpress on a site that was misused for spam. I deleted everything and got a new sql-database. Then I uploaded wordpress with my updatetd database information. I get the 5-minute installation window – but whatever I fill out in the username field – it returns the same for with the error-message: Please provide a valid username.

    What can be wrong? Is it connected to the fact that this site has been infected by spam? or is it to do with the fact that this is a new database on the same domain?

    The site is still blocked by google because of the previous spam – but I use safari and hit ignore, so I can get access: https://www.gunnfridholan.no

    Thankful for any answers..

    I am having the same issue on a fresh install.php.
    Entering my db info fails so I am required to add my db credentials in wp-config.php which allows me to the next screen.
    When I fill in the username field – it returns the same form with the error-message: Please provide a valid username.
    I am kicking off my install from a new IntelliJ IDEA PHP wordpress project using the PHP Web Server. I created a new ‘wordpress’ schema in MySQL Workbench. The user is root with all permissions.
    I have scoured the web but, have not found an answer close to resolving this issue.
    Any direction is appreciated.

    This is a local install so, I cannot provide a link.

    Same here.

    Fixed by setting the post_max_size bigger than upload_max_filesize in php.ini (then restart the webserver).

    Example:
    post_max_size = 2000M
    upload_max_filesize = 1990M
