  • I’ve got the same issue. Would be interested to hear how to get passed it!

Same issue as above. I’m using a GoDaddy account.

    many hours later…

It seems that the problems we’re dealing with have to do with uploading the plugin and setting the file permissions for the files…
Problem is you can only change file permissions (on an FTP client such as Filezilla) when using a Unix/Linux server,
not while operating on a windows server. (I also host with go daddy and must have opted for Windows).

    Check this quote from interspire:

Please note: This permissions tutorial applies to UNIX/Linux-based servers only and although Windows does have a permission system, it’s different and cannot be set by anyone using an FTP client.

Talk about learning the hard way!

I haven’t looked into my options with godaddy yet but I imagine this is going to be a small headache!

    Hope this helps,

    GODaddy:

you can change your hosting from windows to linux…but it’ll take 1-72 hours for it to take effect.
So now I wait, cross my fingers, and hope it all works out.

So, basically word press for windows works ok but you can’t use plug-ins? Can your hosting from godaddy be linux if your computer is windows based. I am so confused. I guess nobody said this was easy.

    windows hosting on godaddy sucks.

Can your hosting from godaddy be linux if your computer is windows based.

Yes. it makes absolutely NO difference what you are running locally. They are different computers.

Woah there guys I’m on linux hosting and I have the exact same problem since upgrading from 2.7.1 to 2.8.5
I can no longer upload or install plugins & I set directory permissions to 777 but still will not work !

Try this, worked fine for me.
