Problems setting up 1and1 to host wordpress
-
Hi. I have been using 1and1 very successfully without problem for a couple of years to host a couple of template based sites. Recently I decided to take my first foray into something more customiseable and decided to go for wordpress.
When I contacted 1and1, they informed me that I was currently using an MSSQL package and that I would need to transfer to a MySQL package (linux) in order to use wordpress. Fair enough, they outlined the procedure, which I then followed. A couple of days later, nothing had happened so I e mailed them. They said that there was a known technical issue with the transfers and that I had been put in a que to be handled by their superiors within a couple of days. A couple of days later, still no luck. I e mailed them again – same thing happened but this time it should take 24 hours. Nothing happened after this either.
This time I rang them. Similar response and no action. I rang them again. They said it should be right in about an hour. It wasn’t.
At this point I was getting annoyed as this was wasting time. I issued the ultimatum. Put action in place to fix it in 24 hours or I change host. Again, I get a response directing me to go through the change package procedure, which I do, but nothing happens.
I have been looking at the requirements for shifting domains to different hosts and if I understand correctly, transfers cannot be made during the first 60 days of registration (most of my domains are older than this, but one is almost brand new, and it is the one that I wanted to try wordpress on first). I don’t particularly want to change host (essentially they all do roughly the same job at the end of the day).
Has anyone else had similar problems with 1and1, and if so how did you solve it?
ThanksQ
