    Hi Guys,
I have just had this issue on a site I manage. There seems to have been a number of IP’s in the logs that were hitting the site with off get requests at the time though including: –
    40.77.188.62, 40.77.188.54, 40.77.189.93, 40.77.190.91, 106.15.251.168, 66.249.68.24 and others.
Do you want/need a list of log files so you can have a look to see what is going on?

  • Hi @funkygorilla,

What you described sounds like a normal web attack by random IPs and/or bots crawling your website.

Have you tried blocking those IPs (the unknown or bad ones) using htaccess rules or a security plugin such as Wordfence, iThemes Security, or even Cloudflare?

If so, did the block affect your website in any way?

    Hi Generosus
Yes, I use Wordfence Pro on that site so they were automatically blocked. I must admit that I’m not sure whether it was attacks that bought down the site, or whether it was the plugin update and the site was getting attacked after.
    Cheers

    Hi @funkygorilla,

We use WF Pro as well (and Cloudflare). An attack (as your described) would not bring down your website. So, I would say your website probably crashed due to V1.13.2 (now fixed) or some other plugin (auto-update).

In short, if you’ve updated this plugin to V1.14.0 and you’re no longer having website issues, you’re good to go!

Useful Tip: If you own only one website, I would stay away from WP auto-updates and let your host manage all plugin auto-updates. For example, SiteGround allows you to schedule auto-updates as follows: Immediate, 24 hours, 48 hours, and 72 hours. We always opt of 72 hours (except security updates) since this timeframe may give developers time to apply a stop-gap measure shall their plugin update contain a bug or some other issue. Security updates are immediate.

    Cheerios!
