Problems updating posts/pages

I am having problems when updating my website. Everytime I update a post/page the content seems to get stuck and doesn’t update sometimes up to hours later. I have to refresh the page several times and clear cache but my concern is that not all of the users of my website will think to do this simply to check whether there is new content.

Can anyone suggest why this might be? I used to have W3 total cache and a Far Futures Expiration plugin installed but have deactivated both reading that this might cause a problem. However, the problem seems to persist.
