• Latest WordPress update leads to this:

Warning: require_once() [function.require-once]: Filename cannot be empty in /mysitelocation/wp-content/themes/virtue/functions.php on line 10

    Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ” (include_path=’.:/opt/php52/lib/php’) in /mysitelocation/wp-content/themes/virtue/functions.php on line 10

Can’t access website and also can’t even access admin area. Had to go into functions file and comment out most of it… that got me able to access admin area so I have now changed theme and everything works ok… but I want Virtue back!

    Please help…

  • Same thing happened to me. I had to go into the the hosting control panel into MYSQL and change the template there back to twentyten to even get back in. Apparently WP 4.3 “Billie” doesn’t like Virtue.

And the WP 4.3 update was automatic, so I wasn’t expecting the site to be replaced by that fatal error on the login page. (But the site itself displayed OK)

Same error message referenced functions.php on line 10 on my site.

Luckily I was just trying to set up the new site with the theme tonight, but it’s obviously not compatible with the update to WordPress. None of the main photos are showing. I can only get photos to show in the body copy. And the slider option disappeared right after I activated it. I guess I’m glad this happened before I had the site set up, but now I’m wondering if I’ll have to find another theme fast if they can’t get it fixed quickly.

helix1, That issue is the same as was posted about here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/update-issue-10?replies=26

www.ads-software.com server had a version of the theme file that wasn’t complete. The main server tech posted there to explain. I isn’t something that was in our power to control.

To fix the issue here are the steps:
Usually you can login to your cpanel on your hosts site and find the “web file manager”

From there you can navigate to the wp-content/themes folder and remove the “virtue” folder that would get your site back up and running. Next login to your wordpress site and navigate to themes. There you can click add new and reinstall virtue.

Since the theme options and customizations are saved in your database those will all still be there.

    Hope that helps,

Steller Thanks for posting. and you can see the aswer above.

We have run virtue with wordpress 4.3 and it works fine. Our demos for example are using 4.3 and the latest virtue.

to control the home slider you can go to the appearance > theme options > home slider. If you don’t see the theme options then it means you have not installed the virtue toolkit. which is needed for the theme options to work.

Can you post a link to your site so I can see what your missing?

Ok have just followed those instructions and although some of the content has returned, my sidebar is missing and can’t seem to be set using the usual customisation page… any reason why?

do you have the virtue toolkit installed and updated?

What page is missing the sidebar?

Is the Virtue toolkit different to the theme itself? I re-uploaded the theme from within my dashboard.

Every page is missing the sidebar.

I apparently am missing something since I can’t get feature images to show on a page. I have a feature image set on this page and it’s not showing:

    Hey helix1,
Yes Virtue toolkit is a plugin. The theme notifies you when you install. You can also click on “appearance > install plugins”

    theduck,
For a featured image to show on a page you would need to use the featured page template. Once you save the page with the feature page template added you can see the template options.

Thanks for your reply, Kadence. I uninstalled the theme using the file manager (and the Virtue tools plugin). I reinstalled the theme this morning, and it’s now working fine.

And you’re right. It appears that the customization all came back too.

    All’s well that ends well.

    Got it. Thanks!

    for me the same
