Problems with 2.0
-
I’ve been using NextGEN for a few years. I did not upgrade until August 20th. (I had been ignoring my web site for months.) In just a few minutes, I saw several errors. I tried replacing the short codes in some of my posts, and got errors using the extended-album code. I switched to the “basic” and that seemed to work OK. But then I realized that when I was testing the page, the black WordPress administration tool bar at the top of my screen disappeared. Also, the normal “edit” link disappeared from the post being tested. In other words, the two fast methods to get back to the admin interface were gone. It is a real nuisance when you are testing your galleries to have to hit the back button ten (or fifty) times to get back into the dashboard.
On another issue, I believe there has been a change in the behavior of the NextGEN when you click on an image to see the full-size image. Previously, you could just click on the full-size image and it would disappear. (I liked this behavior and documented it for the users of my site.) Now it appears you must hit the back button to get rid of the picture.
Subsequently, I read the other users comments in the forum and I realize just how many more problems I could have discovered, if I had a lot of plugins on my site.
The “apology” from the company was needed, but many of the statements in the “apology” (like, “only 3% of installations are having problems”) sound gratuitous and self-serving, rather than realistic.
Anyway, I am rebuilding my site without NextGEN. Not exactly sure how I am going to do it, but NextGEN is GONE!
