• Today I upgraded to the 4.5 version. The upgrade went ok,but when i was adding a new post it wont open the “ADD MEDIA” page when you hit the “ADD MEDIA” tab. Then I went and restored the old version 4.4.2, from a back up and it works again. I think there is a bug in the 4.5 upgrade, that won’t let you use the “ADD MEDIA” tab.

    Cheers

  • That’s not the only bug! We are fixing 200 plus sites at the moment because of this damn update!

I just restored the back up to the version before and it is working ok. Could some one please let me know when the bug is fixed up , then I will do the update again. Cheers !

Yes, my own sites, one of which took hundreds of hours to build, has completely fallen apart since the 4.5 update. The Visual Composer doesn’t work. No animations, carousels or any other parallax features of my theme (UNCODE) work at all. Images are distorted. Margins and size parameters are all wrong.

Could someone please tell me how to return to the previous install of WordPress. This 4.5 update is a complete fail! I’m losing money and opportunities for every hour the site is not working.

    Thank you,
    Erik Tyler

If this is the page you are referring to: /wp-admin/media-new.php it works fine for me. Using any kind of Gallery or Media related plugins that might be affecting it.

4.5 in and of itself seems to be fine, at least on my end.

Add Media works for me. Maybe a theme or plugin issue?
I don’t use media-related plugins and my sites are okay, using 3 different themes.

And anyone should have backed up his/her site(s) before the upgrade and thus be able to reload the old version.

I don’t think this WordPress release is a big fail. If a (custom) visual composer and all kinds of parallax, carousel, image animations stop working, you’re theme is a big fail. (Might be a general jQuery issue.)
That’s why I don’t like all these custom contentblock visual editors and like to stick to the (excellent) native WordPress functionality.
Everything is working well on 40 sites I’ve upgraded so far, including the ‘add media tab’.

I confirm that the add media button does not work for me and it’s not related to any plugin. Clicking the button just doesn’t do anything, as it happens with other buttons in admin, like Screen Options or Help. There is also a problem with autocompleting fields like Tags or Taxonomy. My custom themes don’t seem to be affected, but the admin is compromised as I cannot post anything with a picture.

Having problems with one of my sites. Can’t add media, or change to text view since update – but only in Google Chrome – can work fine in Firefox.

First check your “uploads” directory permission.
Then update adobe flash player for your pc.

@pigeonradio : Please check error.log any error display or not
    wp_config.php on set define(‘WP_DEBUG’, true);

The problem seems to be in the file load-scripts.php, in /wp-admin. The debug mode gives me this error: Syntax error, unrecognized expression: a[href=#toggle].

WordPress includes the latest version of jQuery 1.12, which was released back in January: https://blog.jquery.com/2016/01/08/jquery-2-2-and-1-12-released/

It has been discovered that old versions of jQuery worked with an incorrect syntax. That bug was one amongst many bugs fixed in jQuery 1.12. The symptom of this problem is the following message (or something very similar) in the Javascript console when viewing the site in a browser:

Uncaught Error: Syntax error, unrecognized expression: a[href*=#]:not([href=#])

Is there a workaround for the Add Media button not working? I installed 4.5 without backing up and I need to get a blog post out asap.

@rodbee – try another browser – I can’t add media in Google Chrome, but I can in Firefox
