• I have been trying to change the theme of my website from “Small Biz Theme” to the “Twenty Eleven 1.3” and I am having a number of problems.

    The address is https://www.pokerprofesion.net

The first problem is that none of my posts made to my blog with even show up. I have changed the title from ‘blog’ to ‘articles’ and had no problems with this in the Small Biz Theme.

When I go into my posts through my dashboard there are 10 published posts. I have the correct menu selected, but the whole page just shows up blank.

    https://www.pokerprofession.net/articles/

The next problem is that the Main Sidebar and the Showcase sidebar are not working at all. I have put in things from text, to links, to email subscriptions and nothing is showing up anywhere on the website. However, all 3 of the footers seem to be working just fine.

I have contacted Bluehost, and nothing was solved. Then I was directed here and I really hope you guys can help.

    Thanks!

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

Thanks for the response, I have gone through your first 3 steps to no avail. I am having trouble finding a tutorial on how to do the 4th step. Could you please provide with some information for how to re upload the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of wordpress?

    Thanks

    Heyo,

The article page. what page template is it using?
Can you paste that page’s code?

Say for example its page – blog.php or something. paste that code.

I am not quite sure what this is but I’m going to take my best guess

Under page attributes the page template is set to Default so I believe that means the code is page.php.

However it is definitely the blog of my website so I would assume that it is blog.php but I do not see where I would find this information…

Fair enough, under the page template bit. Can you set it to “blog”?
If it’s page.php it is unlikely that you will be able to list posts, wihtout actually modifying page.php. (as the home page does this with index.php).

So if your site has a blog page that is fantastic, you can just set the page to that.

If not, you’ll need to create a unique page template, and add a bit of php code.

The main posts page template is index.php in the vast majority of themes – not blog.php – irrespective of what Page Template is applied to it. as for your Articles page – it’s just a page. Have you reviewed creating a static front page?

Yea that’s what the problem is. In the Small Biz Theme the articles tab is my blog, it’s not just a page. However, when switched to the twenty ten/eleven theme it all of the sudden just turns into a page.

My posts do not show up there, and the only way to edit the content is to go through pages. How can a different template turn a blog into a page just like that?

I am not seeing any way to change the template to blog like gladwda suggested. The only options are “Default” “Showcase” and “Sidebar”.

Unless it isn’t the main posts page, was my thinking. And they’re trying to get the articles to list the blog posts on a page template. In which case it’ll require a call to display the posts, and a content and title addition to the loop as well.

Whoa, you totally lost me there. How to I execute a call to display the post, and then a content and title addition? This is all brand new to me and I am very sorry for the incompetence. If you could just link me to some tutorials or whatever is best I would really appreciate it!

Unless it isn’t the main posts page, was my thinking

@gladwda: True – but then you’d need a page of posts and there isn’t such a template file in the Twenty Eleven theme.

@sawcruhteez: Have you reviewed creating a static front page?

    @esmi yeh good point.

@sawcruhteez – i’d follow the static frontpage link there. I’d also read about custom page templates as well, which will help down the track.

I will look into creating a static front page, but what about the widgets…even if I can get my blog working, it will all be pointless if I cannot get the widgets to work as well.

Thanks for all the help guys

Can you link to a page where the widgets aren’t showing or working?
