• This is my first endavor in web hosting and using wordpress, ect… So if you assume I know something, I most likely don’t.

I got the tiny server from a small orange.

I’m using “fantastico” to download the newest version of wordpress. It says it installed correctly… I got this message:

You need a username and a password to enter the admin area. Your username is <the right user name>. Your password is <the right password> The full URL to the admin area (Bookmark this!): https://clairekovarik.com/newsblog/wp-admin/

However when I click that link it doesn’t take me anywhere specal. Just the 123cheapdomains site holding page. Is there something I’m doing wrong?

    Help?

Also this isn’t specific to wordpress… but does anyone know how to adjust accessable ports on your firewall? To upload files the tiny orange server says that I need to have Port <number> to be acessable and I need to edit that in my firewall… I have no idea how to do that.

  • You need to edit your nameservers where you purchased the domain from. They need to point to a small orange’s namerservers — they (aso) sends you that info in an email.

    Right now, they dont:

    clairekovarik.com. 3569 IN NS ns44.domaincontrol.com.
    clairekovarik.com. 3569 IN NS ns43.domaincontrol.com.

I hate to sound dumb, and I’m trying to figure out how to do what you said to do, but I’m not sure how to do it. Is there anyway you can elaborate on what you mean or how to do it?

And where did you get that information? Also what’s a nameserver?

ugh I thought I fixed it but it isn’t working still… hmm… I found the nameserver and imput the small orange name servers I got in an e-mail but it still isn’t working.

Can name servers take a long time to click in? Or is it instant?

    24-72 hours… (and sometimes faster)

But I can already see it at: https://clairekovarik.com/newsblog/

which means that the URL linked to your profile here is empty:
    https://clairekovarik.com/
At least put up a simple index.html file and say something to the confused visitor ??

once you change your namerservers, you have to be patient. Its doesnt just happen — theres a thing called DNS propagation.. its the action of aso telling the Internet that your domain goes to an IP on their network.

You changed the namerservers successfully,.now just be patient. ??

    clairekovarik.com. 86400 IN NS ns1.asmallorange.com.
    clairekovarik.com. 86400 IN NS ns2.asmallorange.com.

It can take anywhere from 24 to 72 hours for DNS to propagate.

(I tried to reply 2 hours ago but was busy being spanked.)

Ok! So I’ll sleep on it and keep building my flash site (which is a headache in an of itself) and come back to it tommrow around 6EST (When I changed it) and see if everythings peachy.

Hopefully, I won’t be running back to you all. Thanks so much for the help already!
