problems with H1 tags every single time I start a WP blog

Hi there,

I’m using wordpress because I’ve been told it’s user-friendly and doesn’t require you to be a master coder or anything like that.

Whilst this seems to be true (on the whole), I am having one recurring problem every time I set up a new wordpress blog. It’s about the H1 tags.

I’ve Googled this and it seems to be pretty common. So I wonder if there’s an automated solution.

The problem – Whenever I start a new WP blog (no matter what theme I’ve used), the H1 tags aren’t configured “properly.” I understand that the best way to have it set up is this:

(i) H1 tag around blog title on homepage
(ii) H1 tag around post/page titles on all other pages
(iii) Blog title in some sort of “Div” or “H2/H3” or “p” tag on all pages apart from homepage (not sure what “div” and “p” tags mean/are!)

I’m a bit of a technophobe but this is what I’ve read over and over again. And it makes sense to me. On single post pages you want the H1 around post title, not blog title, since the post title is the most important thing on the page.

The trouble is that whenever I set up a WP blog, this is NOT the default configuration. I’ve tried the default themes, most recently the Twenty Eleven theme, and this is what I get:

(i) H1 tag around blog title on EVERY SINGLE page
(ii) H1 tag round post/page title on every page as well

In other words, the Twenty Eleven theme’s default settings automatically generate TWO H1 tags, by putting blog title and post title in H1 tag on every single page.

This obviously isn’t ideal. But, as I said, I’m a bit of a technophobe and have no idea how to edit “php files” or edit the theme’s “header.php” (as some sites say you should)

Can someone tell me:
(a) if there is an automated solution to this problem? (so I don’t have to keep facing it every time I set up a new WP blog)
(b) if there are WP themes that use the “proper”/SEO-friendly set-up for H1 tags/blog/post title etc.

Last time I had to pay someone to edit the php files and CSS for me. I don’t want to have to do this every single time I start a new WP blog!
