• Hello WordPressverse,
I’ve been having some trouble with my image editor, for quite some time, actually, so this is not a new release issue. When I upload a large image, say at about 1000×1400 pixels, my image editor does not display it properly. It crops the image to a kind of bar-like version within the editor. (1000x400ish). When I attempt to crop for thumbnail, it does not display the image properly, and then “shifts” the image to the right and upwards on save. (Thus, if I crop an image, the area of the image that I selected is not the area of the image that becomes the new thumbnail.)

I’m hoping someone else has experienced this problem and knows of a quick fix. I’m not the biggest genius with this, but I really need my image editor to work for the theme that I designed. I have a portfolio page, located here: https://www.maggienancarrow.com/?cat=108 which relies heavily on the thumbnails of posts. As you can see, right now the thumbnails are not functioning correctly in the left sidebar. I’m not entirely sure what’s going on.

I tried deactivating all image-related plugins. No go. I’ve had this problem for some time, so I don’t think it’s related to 3.4.1.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Here is a screenshot of the problem I’m experiencing:

The image in question SHOULD look like this:
    https://www.maggienancarrow.com/images/2012/07/048-summertime-w10001-800×1188.jpg

Check your crop settings in Settings -> Media.

Yes, sir. I did indeed try all of those things. The image shouldn’t be cropped at all in the edit screen, but it appears to be chopping off the top and bottom of images in the attachment page, and media editing screen, but then not always when it returns the image in the theme. I removed all plugins, and I switched to 2011 briefly. No go. I’m even on a different computer now, and I’m still encountering this problem.

    Any ideas?

This is what I’ve noticed, when attempting to create thumbnails for my images.

Images that I scanned on a particular high-power scanner here at my University are cropping down and not appearing appropriately in the media edit box. Images that I scanned (on a Mac, I might add) with a different scanner are not causing any problems. I save them all as JPGs, but is it possible that a particular color profile or particular kind of information within the image, that I am unaware of, is causing problems for the image editor?

I am having the same issue on WP 3.4.2 —

When I attempt to crop for thumbnail, it does not display the image properly, and then “shifts” the image to the right and upwards on save. (Thus, if I crop an image, the area of the image that I selected is not the area of the image that becomes the new thumbnail.)

This behavior does not occur on all images; but on some, the crop function seems to crop from the top instead of where I selected.
The behavior is occurring whether or not I choose cropping for “thumbnail” or “all images” etc.
Any other ideas? I’m guessing it has something to do with info saved in the jpg image; but I have no idea how to fix…
