Hi, noob question from a non-coder using Elementor free. Longish post coming up… I’ll describe a smaller problem that seems to be symptomatic of a larger problem I can’t seem to solve.

Here’s the “smaller problem”: On my (live site) homepage in desktop view, the “Services Summary” button appears where I expect. However on my mobile device, this button flashes briefly at the top of the screen but disappears.

Maybe it’s an issue with the way I placed the button in the first place? Not really knowing what I was doing, I monkeyed around with margin and padding values in both desktop and mobile edit views, until the button was in the right spot visually for each respective view. I’m sure there must be best practices with button placement that I’m not aware of.

Or is the problem with the way I specified my button links? I use friendly page names, not https URLs.

Or is it an issue because this particular button uses the “PDF embedder” plugin to render a pdf docn from my Media Libabry?

The larger question I alluded to was consistency between desktop edit view and mobile edit view. I had thought editing in the two views would be independent, but that’s not the case. Making a desired edit in desktop view often causes undesired results in mobile view, and vice versa.

So to sum up, the two question are (1) What’s going on with my Services Summary button and (2) Can I somehow set desktop and mobile edit views to be independent?

Thanks for reading and your forthcoming wisdom ??

hmmm… I posted 4 days ago and no reponse from anyone. Is this the best spot to be posting detailed useage problems for Elementor? Can anyone suggest a better place for my question?

This is mainly a place supported by volunteers with no guaranteed response time for things otherwise offered at no cost. They do have a paid option which provides support.

Additionally, you can also check out the Facebook community titled “Elementor Community”.

On your issue, inspecting the code I see the following:

Your button does not reside within the container (section data-id #1062ea3c) that has your text “Here’s what we do best:”

Bur rather, it’s in it’s own container (section data-id #ce9f710) which is towards the bottom of the page just below your footer links.

Additionally, on the button element, you have a negative margin of -609px which looks to be an attempt to move it up the page.

It also seems like the negative margin applied to the 4 column icon boxes might have caused this if you tried to add the button after that negative margin had been applied making it difficult to drag and drop the button into the proper container.

To see this in a structural view, open up the Navigator (CTRL/CMD + Shift + I) and you’ll see how the button is not where you think it is.

    1) Remove the negative margin on your button
    2) Open the navigator
    3) Use the navigator to click and drag the button element to the right container just below your “we know technology…” text element.

Lastly, yes Elementor is Desktop first. Desktop settings trickle down to mobile. Settings set in the tablet and mobile views only override what is set first in Desktop.

Also, you applied the white border around the text element. When you move the button up into this column, the button will reside outside (below) this border.

If you want the button to be inside the bordered area remove the border from the text element and apply it to the column instead. Best of success to you. Cheers!

@pingram3541 you’re awesome! Thanks so much for the detailed analysis. Clearly I don’t know what I’m doing, but I’ll digest your notes and try to fix the issue. Think I may be better off even re-doing the page from scratch.

    Thanks again ??

No prob, I’m pretty sure once you open the Navigator you’ll see the structure. p.s. you can also double click items within the Navigator and name them, for example double click on a section and start naming them to stay organized! You’ll get the hang of it in no time, there are tons of videos, even full site build outs on Youtube as well. Cheers!
