    Hello,
I have a large website with over 10,000 post.

When loading the site map to Google Webmaster Tools (Search Console) it says that the site map has no issues and it was loaded with “success”, but it only list as discovered 22 urls.

I have cleared caches, re-uploaded the sitemap several times and it still will only list 22 urls.

I have set the “Maximum Posts Per Sitemap Page” at 1000.

I have manually inspected the sitemap.xml file and the URLs are there, but Google Search Console is not discovering them.

Before the update I was able to see pretty much all of the URL of the site as “discovered” on Google Search Console.

Any insights or help would be great.

    Thanks

That’s hard to do if you don’t provide the sitemap URL.

There’s nothing in the latest version that would be likely to cause any issues with GSC seeing your sitemap.

Try removing it from GSC completely.
Clear all caching from your server, browser, CDN like Cloudflare, webhost, and caching plugin. (it is important to clear ALL caching)
    Re-add to GSC.

    Hi,

Got it to work by disabling “Enable Sitemap Indexes”. It takes a long time to load if you call the xml file via browser but at least I know the Google search Console is discovering and indexing the pages.

Before disabling “Enable Sitemap Indexes” I did try all your suggestions, but the only thing that worked was disabling “Enable Sitemap Indexes”.

    Thanks.

Eventually we’re going to drop support for non-indexed sitemaps, so we’d really like to diagnose the problem on your site.

@lechon It took several of us staying up until well after midnight, but we believe we’ve identified and fixed the problem.
3.1 has just been released, and makes changes to your sitemap. Google *should automatically update your sitemap index pages pretty quickly. You can remove and re-add your sitemap.xml to Google Search Console if you like, but it shouldn’t be necessary.

I have updated to version 3.1, cleared caches at Cloudflare and on WP Rocket, Removed the sitemaps.xml from Google search console and place a new sitemap.xml file from All in One SEO.

Google Search Console would Not recognize any posts whatsoever.

I have reverted back to disabled “Sitemap Indexes”, so far this is the only way Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools are able to discover all of our posts generated by All in One SEO.

I’ve already replied to you via email, but I’ll paste my reply here as well for the benefit of anyone else reading.

Unfortunately Google Search Console has an aggressive cache of your sitemap. It will take some time, usually not more than 20 minutes or so.
Our recommendation is to switch back to indexes.

    Michael

Bonus: you can prove that 3.1 resolved this issue by switching back to indexes, then adding an additional sitemap like sitemap.xml.xml (the extra xml will get ignored off internally by GSC but it will be added as a second sitemap). You should see that it crawls everything.
Then remove this sitemap and just use the other, waiting until Google recrawls it.

    Hi,

    No problem , I understand .

I will give it a couple of hours and check back later to see if it’s resolving.

    Thank you so much
