Problems with updating

Prior to 3.0.1, there was never any problems with updating of this theme. But …
About a month ago decided to update and the site broke down.
Only now I was able to figure out what the matter is in the Child Theme. Apparently header.php has been thoroughly redone.
Replacing it by new, everything worked. But I had to remember and update all the changes in the header.php.
In addition, the “Page Heading Options” settings block has disappeared somewhere.
On the home page an unwanted headline appeared, which I could not remove, because I did not find where it can be done.
I had to roll back to the old version. I hope you fix it. Thank you.
