    1. I created an account. I got the email to log in and create a password, which I did with the automatic generator. I am still logged in.
    2. I went to another window to test the login. The system remembered my user name. I pasted the password from the other window, and it did not recognize this.
    3. I went back to my profile to verify my password, and it will not show me the password. It only lets me generate a new password. I generated a new password, and again window 2 did not recognize the password I created in window 1.
    4. From the login screen in window 2 I tried to get the system to send me either a new password or a link to change the password, and now it is not sending me any emails.
    5. SEPARATELY, Is the free WP something you have to download to a server as opposed to download an app (client?) to run on a regular computer?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Where specifically are you having trouble changing your password? Here at www.ads-software.com, or on your WordPress site?

And yes, WordPress is software that you intall on a server from a hosting provider: https://www.ads-software.com/documentation/article/get-started-with-wordpress/

You’ll primarily work with WordPress in your browser. There is an app available for mobile devices https://www.ads-software.com/mobile/ but you’ll still need to install WordPress on your hosting provider first.

I don’t have a WP site yet. I am still trying to create an account. Or at least I think I may have, but I can’t log in using the password I thought I created. So I am ready to download WP and set up a site, but I need the password. Can you create one for me and tell me what it is?

So I am ready to download WP and set up a site, but I need the password.

WordPress is software that you install on a hosting provider. As part of that process, you will set up your own password.

To get started, please follow the steps at https://www.ads-software.com/documentation/article/get-started-with-wordpress/

I tried to set up my own password. The system didn’t recognize it, so I changed it and had the same problem. There is a password because I am logged in, but when I try to log in with another window, it doesn’t recognize any password I have tried.

My webmaster (my husband) is all ready to set up my account, but I can’t give him a password because I don’t know what it is. That is why I asked if you could created one and tell it to me so that WP and I both agree on what the password is.

This site, www.ads-software.com is entirely separate of the WordPress site you install.

You only need access here to contribute to the project or ask for support.

It sounds like you downloaded the app, which is not how you create your site. You have to install WordPress on your hosting provider first. During that process you’ll choose a username and password, and you can then use those to work with WordPress in the app or your web browser.

Have you been through https://www.ads-software.com/documentation/article/get-started-with-wordpress/ yet?

    (@cassandravert)

OK, so it sounds like I need to ask for help on WordPress.com, not WP.org.

    (@macmanx)

Ah, yeah, to clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and www.ads-software.com are two different entities: https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/wordpress-vs-wordpress-com/

If you have a WordPress.com site, they have complete documentation and support contacts at https://wordpress.com/support/

I created a profile in .org. Ok thanks, I will go to .com

WP.com is telling me that my user name is taken (cassandravert).

    (@macmanx)

www.ads-software.com and .com are not connected in any way.

    Let’s start over. ??

Overall, what are you trying to do, and what have you done so far?

    Thread Starter Cassandra Vert

    (@cassandravert)

I set up an account in .org with user name cassandravert (because I thought that was the site for the free version). I used the password generator to create something hard and then saved it to my passwords profile. When I went to log in again, I ended up at .com, which recognized my user name but not my password. I am logged into .org and trying to change the password, but it is .com I am trying to log into, and it recognizes the user name but not the password. Did I maybe create an account in .com a long time ago?

I want to create a WP blog. I used to be on BlogSpot, but I want to come over here to support WP because WP is supporting the Fediverse, which is my current project (no, I am not a programmer!)

Ok, if you want to use WordPress.com, and you think that username over there is yours, they have some options for you at https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/

If it’s not yours, you’ll need to register for a different username.

I never got an email, so the recovery email must be too old. I’ll just start over. Thanks for all your help.
