Prodcut Image Upload UI not functioning

    When adding product images to new products, I am now shown a new UI after updating WC recently. It only happens with the main product image – the gallery image uploader remains the same functional UI. The new UI I am presented with offers no way to return to the product listing after succesfully uploading the image. It just offers to”insert into post” or “set as product image” but after choosing the latter, the UI does not return to the product, and going back using the browser button returns me to an empty new item template. Is anyone else experiencing this or could this be the result of some code error or image optimisation plugin? I have reSmushIt installed but this persists with it activated/deactivated/uninstalled so I think it is a core WC element, but without seeing someone else’s site I have no idea.
