I just noticed the following issue: My product category permalinks use the default permalink structure as in mysite.com/product-category/category1. When I create a child category, the permalink becomes mysite.com/product-category/category1/child-category1. This is what I want and works as expected. BUT: when I manually enter mysite.com/product-category/child-category1, the same page is displayed, so basically duplicate content with a different permalink structure. Why is Woocommerce also creating permalinks and pages for child-categories without their parents in the permalink? Their should only be one page and one permalink…

    Hi there!

I understand your concern. This behavior occurs because of how WordPress handles taxonomies, including product categories. By default, WordPress treats child categories as independent taxonomies, which means it can generate separate permalinks for them. The permalink system does not strictly enforce hierarchical parent-child relationships in the URL structure for categories, including WooCommerce product categories.

However, if you want to restrict access to child category pages without the parent slug in the URL, you would need to use a custom plugin or custom redirection rules to enforce this behavior.

You can try to use this plugin https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/permalink-manager-for-woocommerce/

    I hope this helps.
