Product data setting only allows external links

Hi, I really need some help with this issue. I am trying to edit the Product Data section but it is only showing me fields to enter external links. Therefore I can’t select the type of product or add features to it since the buttons such as General, Shipping, Inventory etc are not clickable. Nor are there any drop down buttons for selecting Simple Products, Variable products etc. What should I do?
