Product Description on Shipping Label

    Hi Smart Folks,

    Using Woocommerce Services, I have noticed on my international shipments often, on the shipping label, the product description is wrong in the “detailed description of contents” field. This may be because I duplicate existing products when setting new products up, changing price and description, etc. This allows keeping the same consistent format and layout for my shop page (as opposed to rebuilding new product pages from scratch).

    Somewhere buried in the product setup is this description, and I believe it’s being carried over when I dupe for a new product, and I’m not sure where to find it and correct it. Can someone let me know where Woocommerce Services is pulling this product description from, so I can go in and correct it?

    Would you mind providing a screenshot of the label where you are seeing the product description mismatch?

    Also, would you mind copying and pasting your System Status Report into this thread so that I can check for any red flags there? You can find this by going to WooCommerce > Status > System Status > Get System Report in your WP-Admin dashboard.

    Hi All,

    You Automatic folks take a long time to respond, thus my lack of urgency to get this uploaded. In any case, here it is. In the product description of the customs form it says “fork yokes – pinchbolt w/ steer”, which is a product description for a totally different product we sell, not the one the order was for. The product on this order was NOT fork yokes. So, what’s happening is, somewhere embedded in the product code this is set up wrong, and woocommerce is pulling the wrong data. I don’t know how or where to fix it. Please help.

    @nycnorton When you are creating your shipping label, there is an option titled “Customs”. You can expand it by clicking on the arrow to the right of that section.

    Once that section is expanded, you are given the option to customize the content of that description.

    Today I had an international order with two products shipping and so looked up what you’re showing, and sure enough the customs description (title only) is the same for both products. Ugh.

    Yes, I can manually edit/override this, but that’s a band-aid to a bigger problem. It seems (as I said in my first post) that when I duplicate an item to set up a new, the title of the old product is embedded in the code somewhere and not getting updated. This is what I need to correct.

    And the reason I’m duplicating items to set them up is simply because the format of each item is complex enough that rebuilding every new item from scratch would bring up many inconsistencies. Duplicating an item and overwriting the title/description/price/etc is much easier. But obviously there’s some embedded info that isn’t updating that I need to find. And that is what I’m asking about on this forum – how to find in the code this and correct it.

    Hey @nycnorton,

    I attempted to reproduce this issue using WooCommerce 4.1.1 and Services 1.23.0 with the following steps, but the placeholder/default customs description updated to use the modified info from the duplicated product (rather than using the original product’s info as the default/placeholder that would need to be manually updated on the Customs section):

    – Create original product
    – Purchase original product
    – Purchase label for original product order
    – Duplicate original product
    – Modify all info on the duplicated product
    – Purchase duplicated product
    – Purchase label for duplicated product order

    Can you try reproducing the issue on a staging copy of the site with just WooCommerce, Jetpack, and Services active and see if you see the same behavior that you’re seeing on the current site?
