And how to deal with the non-existing comment feed? As it’s offered in the product posts code, the bots try to access it and reach 404 only.

The issue here is that this comment feed (a wordpress standard) is offered, but not working for product pages (404). It’s working for other post types like posts and pages.
Please note, there is a redirect enabled for deleted products in case of 404s in this category. If disabled, the above link plus /feed/shows 404.

The best way to reinstall is to lower the version number in the editor or through FTP and update the plugin.

I tested it on many different configurations, but unfortunately I cannot reproduce this.

Can you please try to disable all other plugins one by one to see which one is adding it?

If this doesn’t help, please also switch the theme.

It’s neither theme nor other plugins.
Also with all other plugins deactivated the issue is still there: the RSS feed for comments of a product page is present, but throws a 404 error.

I also tested the eCommerce Product Catalog Plugin on a different site with different theme and different database: Same issue.

Thank you for the update.

This can happen when you had the reviews/comments enabled previously and now they are disabled. We now modified the code to avoid the 404 error in such case.

Can you please update eCommerce Product Catalog to the newest version to confirm that it helped in your case? If you already have the newest version please reinstall it.

Thanks for your effort.
I updated the plugin (from 14.11 to 22.11) but unfortunately the issue still remains. I also cannot remember that the comment setting were changed. Comments are enabled.

Alternatively, would it be possible to disable the comments feed just for al_product post types?

Hi @mission500,

Normally comments are disabled for product pages. You must have enabled them somehow and this is causing the issue.

If you want to have comments or reviews on your product pages I recommend the free reviews extension from catalog extensions menu.

In the next version such 404 error will be avoided. The RSS link will not appear when it doesn’t exist. We already added this so if you want to see the effect immediately please reinstall the plugin.

I just updated to version 2.7.10 and good news: the post’s comments RSS disapeared for one site. Great!

For a second site it is still there. Here the post type al_product is added to the general feed. That might be the issue here. But it has no imppact, just tested.

Sorry, for the misunderstanding. The combined feed is on purpose. But I removed the al_product posts from the feed temporarily and it has no impact on the comments’ feed with its 404s. Thanks for having a looks at urlaub-auf-raten-buchen.de
