Product images from downloadable files..?

I had been trying to create downloadable (image)products and use these images also as a product image.

For some reasons in “Add images to product gallery” is only showing gray default image icons.

I also copied the download link into image into csv export file without success. The original downloadable images are about ~20 Mpx or even more.
