Product Images not displayed on internal Link

Not sure if this is related to the theme but when adding links from one product to another it only shows the Link and no image. All thumbnail sizes are correct as far as I can see but when right licking on a linked product blank image within description and trying to download the file is named download.svg and a blank file. I also tried adding support for .svg files but not working either.
