How can I fix the product urls (products/?&SingleProduct=2) to the actual product name for example products/blacktshirt to help my SEO. Under product tab there is place for “Product Link” where it says: A link that will replace the default product page. Useful if you participate in affiliate programs.

But as soon as I insert my desired name for example (products/backtshirt) I get 404 error.
    Thank you

  • Hi ramie,

The Product Link field is for exactly what it says it’s for, redirecting to an existing page that isn’t the product page built by our plugin. It’s not for setting the slug of the built-in product page. What you’re talking about is offered in the premium (i.e. only available in the premium version) feature called “Pretty Permalinks” in the “SEO” area of the “Options” tab. If you enable this, then you can specify unique slugs for each product.

Hi thanks much for the explanation. I used the “pretty permalinks” which it worked fine except that I am not sure why it adds “/?” to the linked! (https://rassopharma.ch/products/product/herceptin/?)
Also what is suggestion for better SEO?
    1. Create a new page for each product that I add to the product catalog and use the “Product link field” to link it to that page. (https://rassopharma.ch/products/herceptin/)
    2. or just use the product page that is generate by the plugin.

    Hi Rami,

I would go for option #2 (i.e. keep your setup as it is currently).
The /? in the URL cannot be removed, as it is there in case URL parameters are added and it shouldn’t effect SEO.

    Hi,
I just noticed that the generated URL has added an additional “product” products/product/herceptin/? how can I remove that?

I think the correct URL should be: (https://rassopharma.ch/products/herceptin/?)
    Thank you

    Hi Rami,

With Pretty Permalinks enabled, you have to specify a “Permalink Base”. If you don’t then WordPress will specify one for you (i.e. the word ‘product’).

To override this, go to Options->SEO, then write something in the “Permalink Base” section (e.g. “item”). It can be anything as long as it’s not the word “product” (as that can cause issues with WordPress).

After saving the new Permalink Base, you might need to re-save your permalink structure. To do this, go to the left side Admin menu, Settings->Permalinks, scroll down and click “Save Changes”.

    Hi

Thank you very much for the explanation. I did as you explained. The word product was replaced by item:
    https://rassopharma.ch/products/item/herceptin/?
However, the correct link should be: https://rassopharma.ch/products/herceptin/?without the word item.

The individual product pages have to have a base URL for the plugin to work correctly. So, you can either set it to something else, like you did with the word “item”, or you can leave it blank and it will use “product”.
