Hi @hsipani – you should be using a child theme: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/set-up-and-use-a-child-theme/
This allows you to stay up to date when updating the parent theme, but your overrides won’t be discarded.

I already have a child theme but the code that I was given could only be inserted in a file that exists only on parent theme. I want a code that I can write in child theme functions.php which will do the same thing but wont get removed when updated.

That can be added to the parent or child theme, it does not make a difference.
