• Hi,

I have an issue with product sorting in WP Admin. In the past, I have sorted the products in a specific order. And because I have default sorting enable in the customizer, the sorting in WP Admin is reflected on the front end.

Now I have added a few new products and they show at the top of the product list, as well as on the front end. I want them to be ordered lower down the page.

So I click the sorting option the WP Admin product list, expecting that it would just enable te sorting option. However, it first reloads the product list in alphabetical order, so the sort order I specified before is completely gone and I would have to re-ordered everything all over again. See this screen recording: https://go.screenpal.com/watch/cZQY2RVSr5W

Why is this and how do I fix that?
    This is with Version 9.3.2

    Thanks
    JP

    Hello John-Pierre Cornelissen,

Thank you for contacting Woo support.

To make sure I fully understand your issue let me rephrase the problem.

You initially sorted your products in a specific order, and after adding a new product, that item appeared at the top of the product list in both the WP Admin and on the front end. When you attempted to adjust the order by clicking the “Sorting” option in WP Admin, the list was unexpectedly reordered alphabetically, causing the custom order you set earlier to be lost.

A couple of clarifying questions to help pinpoint the issue:
    – Before adding the new products, how did you initially sort your products?
    – After adding a new product, have you tried reordering just a few items manually? Does that order persist, or does it reset again when you attempt to adjust it?

Let me know so I can assist you better!

    Best regards.

    Thanks @doublezed2,

    Yes, that is correct

Before adding the new products, how did you initially sort your products?

The original product list was created. Then the customer wanted to show a few products at the top of the list, so I clicked the ‘sorting’ option in the backend and dragged the products in the order the customer had requested.

After adding a new product, have you tried reordering just a few items manually? Does that order persist, or does it reset again when you attempt to adjust it?

No not yet. These the customer wants to have these two new product at the bottom of the list. If I now click ‘sorting’, it shows everything alphabetically, and I am afraid that if I move these two new product to the bottom, the entire list will be saved in alphabetical order. If that happens, I will have to reorder the entire list all over again.

    Hi @jpnl

I have an issue with product sorting in WP Admin. In the past, I have sorted the products in a specific order.

In WooCommerce, the newest product typically shows at the top in the backend by default. Could you tell me how you’ve managed to arrange this so that the oldest product appears on top instead? Using the “Sortng” option or custom code?

I am afraid that if I move these two new product to the bottom, the entire list will be saved in alphabetical order.

Yes, it is possible since you are using “Default Sorting.” I suggest trying it on the staging site. Or you can try using a custom code snippet like these:

Let us know how that goes. Looking forward to helping you.

It’s fixed. I don’t know what it was, but I had to re-order everything all over again and now it’s back on how it should.
