    Hello,
I am trying to setup a WordPress site using WPeCommerce with product taxes. The intention is to show the prices without taxes and have the taxes added at the checkout.

WPeCommerce however refuses to add taxes to any product price. I have three different products now that I have been testing with. I am located in Finland so I configured this and set the general tax to 24% in the settings. I’ve enabled selling to all regions and also set region specific taxes to 24% (Finland, all countries, a few selected other countries). I have tried changing to the setting that tax is included in the price so that the checkout would simply show the tax amount but this does not help either. I have tried all different tax logic settings but they make no difference to this. I have tried to set product specific taxes and using the tax bands to set the taxes. I have enabled all forms and fields in the checkout and tried changing the order of the country and state fields in the checkout form. I have tried entering various countries for the billing and shipping addresses and recalculating the shipping and tax but the product tax has always remained 0.00.

I will only be selling digital products so I have disabled the shipping, but in my tests I enabled this to see if it had any effect. When the shipping is enabled and also the setting to apply the tax to the shipping costs, this actually works. The correct tax % is added to the shipping costs as it should be. The product tax however stubbornly remains at 0.00 no matter what. At least this shows that it is indeed saving the tax settings correctly, it simlply refuses to add it to any products for some reason.

I’ve done the test for conflicts, disabled all other WordPress plugins, flushed the cache and gone through the default WordPress themes but this did not help. At first WordPress was at version 4.0.1 but upgrading to version 4.1 did not help either.

I’m sure I have have gone through all possible tests and settings but nothing except enabling the shipping has had any impact on the taxes. I even added a new product to make sure that the products aren’t corrupted but the new product is also stuck in a 0 tax setting. Any ideas what could be causing this and what could be tried to resolve this problem would be much appreciated. The store can not be launched before this problem has been fixed.

    Thank you!

I tried reverting to version 3.9 but the same problem exists also in that version. Hopefully there will soon be a version 3.9.2 that fixes this serious bug.

Same issue here; Upgraded from an earlier version to WP 4.1 / WPEC 3.9.1

I use inclusive taxing and the product specific bands to add taxes.

Strange thing is that for the old products (created in earlier version of WPEC) the taxes work correct.

Diving into this i found following line in taxes_module.php:

    “require_once WPSC_FILE_PATH.’/wpsc-admin/includes/settings-pages/taxes.php’;”

the is no map “settings-pages” bu there is a map named “settings-tabs”

    ?? isnt this odd ??

Thank you for this information bvanzandvoort. I can confirm that for products created with version 3.9 the tax is working as it should. This is good news for me since I only have a few very static products in my store. So I can remake the products with version 3.9 and then upgrade the plugin.

Hopefully this bug will be fixed in the next version.

    This worked for me!

I can also confirm that after installing this patch the taxes work even for products created with version 3.9.1. Thank you.

    HELP!

I really need this fix, but I don’t understand where to put it. I am sure others could use a little better explaination also.

    Thanks

    Hi isay81,

You can copy the contents of this file, and copy it over the contents of the file that you should find on your server under /wp-content/plugins/wp-e-commerce/wpsc-taxes/controllers/taxes_controller.class.php. Overwrite the entire file with the contents of the aforementioned link and upload. It will not be un-done with the next update, and it should resolve the issue for you.

    Thanks!

Can I do this in the plugin Editor file under that name or do I have to go into the FTP?

Well, I broke the site when I used the new code.

I am sure it is my lack of FPT understanding.

When I put the old code back in the site came back up. I must not understand how to do this. I will open a support ticket.
    Thanks!

    Hi isay81,

Feel free to email me at justinsainton at gmail dot com with your FTP credentials and I’d be happy to apply the patch for you.

Wow! Thank you Justin. Everything is working.

Just a quick note to others. In my case at least you have to re-input the products that were not adding the tax. Easy enough to do, just hit duplicate and the new product will add the tax.

Now that I know that, there is like a 5% chance I got it right the first time but just didn’t realize it. Then I changed it back and broke everything :o) Happy day and again,

    THANK YOU JUSTIN!
