When products are variable (ie, its one product with different variations, size, model etc), the Title remains the same for each variation in the google stream.

This is obviously useless for Google ads, as there is no distinction between each variation, they all have the same name, but different prices –

This is a severe flaw and needs to be fixed.

  • Hi @solosails,

I understand that you’re having an issue with the Google Listings & Ads plugin where the product variation titles are not being reflected in the Google stream. This can indeed be a challenge when it comes to Google ads, as it doesn’t allow for a clear distinction between each variation.

At present, the Google Listings & Ads plugin doesn’t directly support the feature of including variation details in the feed title. The feed title is typically made up of the product title alone, without any variations.

However, your feedback is valuable and we would appreciate it if you could add your suggestion as a feature request. In the meantime, there might be a workaround through custom coding. You could potentially hook into the ‘woocommerce_gla_product_attribute_value’ filter to modify the title attribute for variable products. Please note that this would require some familiarity with PHP and WordPress hooks.

Please note that writing or providing custom code is not within the scope of our support policy. For development and custom coding questions, it’s best to ask for insight related to those on either the WooCommerce Advanced Facebook group or the WooCommerce Community Slack. Hi, OK, thanks for the reply.

Can you give the full code that would be required to set this up please?

Also, if anyone is reading this, it appears you can set up custom filters in google merchant that allow modification of the title to include custom variables including “size” etc. Its a bit of a sad workaround, but appears to work.

This really should be a core functionality of the api stream addon.

    Hi, OK.

Using filters is almost ok, so long as you only need one attribute to be passed through to Merchant Centre, if you have complex items with multiple attribute combinations such as – size/colour/ etc, only one of these can be passed through to the title as the plugin only allows “Size” to be populated with one item, and there is not option to pass through other attributes or custom labels at all – this is another big flaw

    Hey, @solosails!

We appreciate your suggestions and are always looking for ways to improve our products and services, and input from users like you is invaluable.

As my colleague mentioned, if you wish, you can submit a feature request for this. You can check that out here.

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help or if you have further questions.

    Have a wonderful day!

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – we’ll be here if and/or when you are ready to continue.
