Product variations weight and dimensions not displaying

    Whatever I enter in the weight and dimensions fields for product variations doesn’t display on frontend unless weight and dimension are also set for the parent product.
    This makes absolutely no sense as a parent product shouldn’t have weight or dimensions – it’s not a product you can buy, but merely a container for product variations whih may very well have different weights and dimensions.

    If I do enter weight and dimensions for the parent product, those values are displayed on frontend when ‘select an option’ is selected from the dropdown menu, which is not what is supposed to happen.

    This should be fixed so that product variations weight and dimensions are displayed regardless if the parent product has weight and dimensions set.

    Actually that is what is supposed to happen, just not what you want to happen ??

    Why would you want parent products to have weight and dimensions? Is that meaningful or useful for anything?

    I would suggest that nothing is displayed for weight and dimensions until a variation is selected. That appears logical to me. Why does ‘something’ need to be displayed?
    The only other meaningful option I can think of would be to display a range of weight and dimensions – for instance if there are 3 variations with the weights 2 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg the parent product could say: weight 2-10 kg.

    It can be used as default. There is no downside to adding these values.

    Because the script replaces the weight and dimension values. What you’re proposing would mean that it needs to take care of the markup for the entire row, which leads to difficulty with themes.

    Well, yes there is. The downside is that they appear on frontend when no variation is selected which is kind of confusing.
