    Hi

I have enabled stock management globally but have not yet entered any stock quantities on a product/variable level. The problem I’m experiencing is that the stock status of some of my products automatically changes to either on backorder / out of stock.

How does this occur seeing that stock quantity has not been entered. And how do I prevent this from happening?

    Thanks so much

  • Hello,

the stock status of some of my products automatically changes to either on backorder / out of stock.

Can you check if Manage Stock is unchecked at product level, and Stock Status is set to “In stock?”

    Hi

Manage stock is unchecked and stock status automatically changed to “on backorder”. Not sure how as the stock quantity has not been added as seen in the screen shot here: https://snipboard.io/N0V3dY.jpg

    Thank you

    Hi,

Thank you for clarifying. I have tested this in a fresh WooCommerce installation and I could not reproduce the same issue on my test site which has the latest versions of WordPress, WooCommerce and Storefront?theme.

You’ll first want to do a full conflict test to determine if the issue is coming from a plugin/theme conflict – please temporarily switch your theme back to Storefront and disable all plugins except for WooCommerce. If that resolves the issue, then re-enable plugins one-by-one until you find the one that’s causing the conflict.

If you don’t want to test on your live site, you can create a staging site using a plugin called?WP Staging: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-staging/

    Hi

Thanks, I will definitely test it out on a stage site and let you know if the issue still occurs.

Could you please answer two questions:

    1. If Manage stock is enabled globally must stock quantity be added?
    2. Once Manage stock is enabled globally does WooCommerce have a default quantity amount which it uses? How does this work

    Thank you

No. Only if Manage Stock is enabled at product level, you do need to have stock quantity. If you leave the stock quantity blank with that setting, it will automatically change to 0 which is Out of Stock.
