• Hey guys,

I’m having a bit of troubles with my current website. I’m selling shoes on the danish market and I have a couple of variable products that are out of stock. However, it should still be possible to buy them, though they aren’t in stock. Right now it says out of stock and then it is not possible to add the product to cart.

It should be noted that the product is variable – since I have sizes from 39-45 and different colors – and none of this specific shoe-type is in stock.

Can I change this, so that it still says ‘out of stock’ when you pick size and color, but can be added to cart and ordered as if it were actually in stock? ??

    Thanks in advance!

  • You might want to check the stock of each variable item and make sure you have all your variable items linked.

    You can also enable backorders…

    My settings are as follow:
Under each variation I have typed ‘no value’ (empty field) within the box for stock.

Regarding stock status (in the menu ‘stock’) I have set this to ‘Not in Stock’ and then ‘allowing backorders’. But still: it looks like this https://skoexperten.dk/butik/casual/.

If I then mark the box ‘Manage Stock’ the products are automatically in stock – even though I set stock status till ‘Not in Stock’.

Sorry if the translation is not perfectly correct, my woocommerce is set to Danish and I cannot remember the exact terms ??

What you need to do is set to manage stock, set your quantity to how ever many you have on hand. For a test you can set that to 0 if you want to allow backorders… Then set the stock status to In Stock that way if you are allowing backorders it will still show in stock, and allow customer to purchase if you have allow backorders enabled.

If you set the stock status to Out of Stock and Allow Backorders to do not allow the item will show out of stock and not allow backorders.

If you set allow backorders to allow, it will automatically set the stock status to in stock, You cannot set the stock status to not in stock and allow backorders… as this will auto set the stock to in stock even though your stock qty is 0 or empty… That is the whole point of it so you can allow backorders etc.

The stock quantity will show the customer how many you have in stock if this is above 0…

If you do not have allow backorders enabled once the stock hits 0 it will change the stock status to out of stock automatically.

I hope all of this makes sense.
