Products Requiring Coupon Code?

  • Is it possible to have a product require a coupon code to purchase?

    I am trying to offer the support to something I have released for free, but limiting those who can access it to those who have purchased the asset on the Unity Asset Store (online store for digital games development tools).

    My idea was to add the coupon code to the documentation or somewhere so only those who have it can access the documentation as it goes through quite a bit of the code.

    I am open to any other ideas people come up with to do this.

    I’m also looking for a way to make a product only available by means of a mandatory / required coupon code.
    I don’t mind if I have to put code into the themes functions.php and that I would have to update that piece of code when I add another product that would require another or existing coupon code. Ideally this functionality would be a build in feature in WooCommerce but I’m afraid we can wait forever for it.

    Alternatively I could be using WooCommerce Memberships add-on but not at $149 (now on sale from $199) annually… that’s way to much money for the non-profit website/-shop I’m working on!! ??
    I would buy it in a heartbeat at a $50 level including lifetime updates and first six months free support (paid support after that would be okay for me)… as that would allow me to go forward.
    The WooCommerce Memberships add-on has the feature to “restrict product viewing or purchasing”. Great! That would only require me to assign the right group to the specific users when they have registered and notify me.

    (It’s really too bad that the WooCommerce add-ons by WooThemes have gone really sky-high with the prices over time making them out of reach for non-profit initiatives or the really small (hobby) webshops with hardly any sales!!)
