In reply to: Using custom links as parent pageHi Tim
I would like to ask a further question on this subject:
I am surprised that more people don’t have this problem, I would think that most people are surely using WordPress for websites and using pages rather than blogs and posts these days so how are they avoiding this problem?
I would have thought that anyone adding sub menus and wanting to form the correct url path would have the issue that I had, otherwise what are they doing? I know there is a plugin called “Create And Assign Categories For Pages” but I am wary of free plugins these days as so many cease to be updated and so are a risky prospect. I have noticed that the author had not updated this plugin for several months but saw today that he has now updated it – in the last 5 days. I wish WordPress would pay more attention to users who use pages and not posts and address their needs better, especially as I believe most people are creating websites now with WordPress and not blogs. It can’t be that tricky to add categories for pages into the WordPress functionality so users don’t have to resort to a plugin.
I am very interested to hear what you think about this.
Many thanks
Helen.

In reply to: Using custom links as parent pageJust a further question on this, is creating blank pages in this way bad practice? Should I be using posts with categories instead? I thought that posts were more for blogs than static content for websites….
Thanks

In reply to: Using custom links as parent pageHi
Yes, I worked out a solution. I created an empty page called “Coronavirus” so that I was able to make it a parent of “Coronavirus update” therefore creating the url that I wanted.
I did not add the “Coronavirus” page to the menu, instead I just added a custom link called “Coronavirus” so that people would not end up clicking on it and ending up on an empty page.
So now the url is what I want and the Coronavirus link on the menu on the front end just points users to the sub menu items, which is what I wanted to do.
Hopefully this solution may be of use to others. ??
Thanks!
Hi
I put in a hex code for the background colour and at first it wasn’t working until I pre-fixed the hex code with a # and now it all works perfectly.
Thanks so much for your help! ??
Hi wfphil
I have checked and our site does not seem to have been hacked but at least since de-activating the plugin, our site has not gone down but I am keeping an eye on it with Pingdom Alerts. If problems persist after we manage to remove the plugin altogether I will get my husband to contact Azure. We are able to remove it from the local version so once we promote that (hopefully tonight) it will be gone from the live version.
Just one further question I did have a lot of alerts in Wordfence saying that files in the plugins had been changed, is that normal? I’d never seen this until the last few weeks. I re-installed the plugins and these alerts did not go away so i just had to go down the list one by one to say I’d dealt with the problem and then they cleared. Could this have caused an issue?

In reply to: [Redirection] It does not work anymoreJust to let you know I have recently had to dump the Redirection plugin, but have since found that this one works really well: Quick Pagepost Redirect.

In reply to: [Redirection] No longer re-directingHi I had to go back 2 versions and then it only worked for a bit. I am now using:
https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/quick-pagepost-redirect-plugin/ which seems to work really well so far. Thanks so much for that chembro303. I had to go back to version 2.4.3 to get one to work, but the important thing is that I have one that works now! ??
How can we get hold of the old version?

In reply to: [Easy Twitter Feed Widget Plugin] Frame size and link colour won’t changeIt seems to be all ok now. Thanks.
Just an idea:
It would be nice if we could change the link colour of the Twitter username that shows in the feed. Currently I have 2 different link colours which looks a bit messy; one for the username and one for custom coloured links in the feed.
Thanks
My apologies, I was using Easy Custom Sidebars which is now listed as being incompatible with WordPress 4.7 so I have stopped using that and am now using your sidebar plugin which works perfectly.Your plugin is easier to use as well. I am also impressed with the support here. Thanks very much. ??
It’s done the same for me too. It seems to have wiped my existing sidebars but it also won’t let me edit or delete any new ones that I create.I am using Woo Themes Canvas. I’m not sure how to dowmgrade WordPress but this does not seem like a long term answer as we’ll have to upgrade at some stage soon anyway. I’m not sure what to do now.
