    hi.

UM is great but i’m having a problem with comments on user profiles. i like the feature but when someone leaves a comment on a profile, it shows on his own profile as well as the target profile. moreover, in the “recent comments” widget, only the author profile version is showed.

is this a known issue or a possible case of plug-in incompatibility?

BTW, this is a private site, so the link above is to the only public page of the site –?the member list. if you need a peek at the comment display i can provide you with a temporary access by mail.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @jimdoneit

Could you please provide a screenshot of the form where you leave a comment to a profile?

hi and thanks for your follow up.

apparently, there is no attachment functionality on this forum.

you look up the screenshot here:

i have more info : when you leave a comment on a profile, all member profiles will display it, not only the author and the target.

i have 3 comment associated plug-ins : truncate comments, simple comment editing and DCO comment attachment. i have deactivated all 3 and the problem remains.

    cheers.

    Hi @jimdoneit

Did you add the custom comment form inside the UM Profile as Tab?

i’m sorry, i don’t understand “inside the UM Profile as Tab” but i don’t think i added a custom comment.

i just allowed comments on the generic profile page that calls the profile editor with: [ultimatemember form_id=”386″].

i customised this form with some fields.

    cheers?

    hi.

just so you know: i changed the comment management of my site, from Jetpack to wpDiscuz.

the problem mentioned above is still there. so it looks like a UM issue.

strangely, the comment seems to be attached to <site url>/user/ with no profil name attached.

    cheers.

    Hi @jimdoneit

Are you able to provide a video clip so we can see the issue clearly? UM doesn’t have a feature that users can leave a comment to profile.

I believe the issue is one of expectations.

The comment system is “page” based; there is only one page (in this case) – that page being the page that also includes the UM shortcode for profiles. Hence the appearance a comment is being saved against all member profiles.

The expectation (requirement) the OP has is for profile based comments which the standard comment functionality does not accommodate.

of course… i realized that this morning. the comment form is attached to the page that includes the UM form by ways of a short code. the form is instantiated with a given user’s content, but not the page, which is always the same. stupid of me. i should have understood when i saw the URL –?the one of profile page.

on spontaneous community platforms where people who don’t know each other form a group around a specific subject, it’s probably a good idea not to allow comments on profile. but in closed communities (work, class…) it could be handy. in my case, this private site is for 100 people from the same family and it was a requested feature.if UM eventually goes that way by implementing comments on profile forms, let me know.

    cheers

@jimdoneit “it could be handy. in my case”

Personally I think it would be beneficial in the vast majority of cases and is on my “to investigate” list which is why I recognised the issue.

cool… but not simple. comments raise lots of issues. maybe by means of the integration of a comments plug-in in the template –?or just the current comments manager.

good luck anyways and please keep this topic posted if something comes through.
