  • I completely agree – EWWW Image Optimizer is extremely useful. Thanks for building it, it’s really appreciated.

…and please can we get a progress bar of some description?

I’m currently running the bulk optimization, but all I can see is the browser load icon at the top. I guess I’ll just have to wait until something happens…

    Thanks again!

Yeah, any servers that have gzip turned on can’t display the progress as it happens, and I’ve been unable to find a way around that.
However, both of you have hit on something I’ve been considering for the next release, so consider your wish granted (as soon as I have time).

Not sure if my problem is related, but for me there is also no progress bar showing up:

I have max_execution_time set to 30 seconds, but of course the bulk optimization takes longer than that. So it interrupts and i have to click presume each time. It would be very convenient if the bulk optimization page could do the optimization with some ajax stuff, so that each image optimization is done in a single request.

Or will it work already this way as soon as the progress bar is functional for me?

the ajax method will be released in version 1.4.0 (still working on the kinks).

To clarify, max_execution_time only accounts for actual php processing time, so time spent running the actual optimizers doesn’t count. The plugin also adds 50 seconds to that EVERY time it finishes an image, so you are likely running into something on your webhost that kills long-running processes. I’ve seen that personally on my webhost, whereas on my local dev-box, I can run the bulk operation for hours with max_execution_time set to a very low value.

released 1.4.0 with the ajaxified bulk optimize. Let me know if you have any more suggestions for improvements on that.
