• I cannot edit posts in my install of WP 3.0

Every time I click “Posts” I am prompted to download edit.php and cannot access the edit posts page.

I have EXACTLY THE SAME wordpress install on my Mac using MAMP, and can access the edit posts page just fine

I’m using Firefox 3.6.3 on OSX 10.5.8. This error also occurs with Safari 4.0.5.

    My server is running Linux.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?

    – What i’ve done is delete all the files from the directory (the install in question is in a sub-domain for testing a new theme) and created a new database

    – A completely fresh Install was painless, and the theme installed fine. I can access the Edit Posts page, and add new posts just fine.

    – But now I cannot add any categories! The Add New Category button is unresponsive!

A completely fresh Install was painless

Did you re-install from a fresh download of WP 3.0?

    I did.

The original switch from 2.9.2 to 3.0 was performed using WP’s inbuilt Upgrade feature.

Have you installed any plugins? Are you using the 2010 theme?

No plugins, using a theme called ‘Press’ by Obox

Try switching to the 2010 them and see if that helps.

    Hi jamie33iee
I had this same problem, it is a very simple fix.
Not sure why it happens but if you have no posts at all on your WordPress site then edit.php doesn’t work. This also happens with upload.php if you have no media uploaded.
The problem will resolve itself when you make your first post.
    Hope that helps.
