People write that optimole serves right image sizes automatically without the srcset attribute. Even though I use Optimole and have enabled “scale images & lazy load” using Chrome’s developer tool I see that the intrinsic size stays the same for mobile and desktop.
If the intrinsic size of the src image is larger than the rendered size the browser is downloading too much, right? If yes and if optimole is not serving right sizes wouldn’t it be the best solution to add srcset with optimole URLs?

    Hi @okresearcher,

Thank you for contacting us and for using Optimole.

Could you please share the URL of the website as an example where images are not scaled? Images should be lazy-loaded for them to be scaled so we need to check what could be the reason it’s not happening on your website.

    Thanks!

    Hello Vytis,
here for example. The intrinsic size stays the same for mobile and desktop.

    Hi @okresearcher,

You have fixed width and height set for the images no matter the screen size, that’s why Optimole serves images with the defined dimensions also no matter the screen size – https://vertis.d.pr/p4vo2l

If you have fixed width and height defined for the element Optimole will always use those values when building ULRs for the optimized images.

Oh ok, thanks. How do I change that? I didn’t do that manually or on purpose.

    Hey @okresearcher,

This is something I cannot answer as it’s specific to every website and about how it’s built.

Values for the width/height should be set based on the screen size and shouldn’t be fixed no matter what’s the device on which page is opened but fixing this is specific to every website and depends on the theme that you’re using or plugins that render specific section of the page with the images.

The support and service has been very helpful so far!

    1. With Optimole, is it always possible to have the intrinsic and rendered sizes matched (even on Optimole’s site that’s not the case)?
    2. Could you give an example of code or a site following best practices (for performance) for making use of the approach Optimole takes?

    Hi @okresearcher,

Thank you for using Optimole, please create a new thread for new questions instead of posting on another thread that was resolved with a different question.

    Regarding your latest questions:
    1) Yes, it’s called scaled images functionality – https://vertis.d.pr/MInLBj If you have examples (URLs) where images are not scaled we can take a look.

    2) We do not have such examples as there are different needs for websites so we recommend checking our docs https://docs.optimole.com/ to get familiar with main functionalities and use those that bring the best results for your website.
