Properties Not Showing on Home Page–NOVICE

I installed the theme The Journal and I’ve made a few modifications to it, however, I’ve searched for HOURs on how add/change the categories in red at the top of the Home Page. Also, the Home Page does not show and right side menu options. I’ve got it to work in the interior pages.
