  • Hi Reza10,

    Thanks for reaching out to us and using FV Player!

    The security of your videos mostly depends on where you choose to host them and which level of protection comes with it.

    We offer built-in protection – the DRM Text protection, against screen capturing with FV Player Pro. Combined with video encryption, it should provide sufficient protection of your videos against downloading.

    For the encryption and encoding, we offer a free add-on called FV Player Coconut. This add-on helps you encrypt your videos via Coconut.co. It is a comparable, but much more user-friendly and cost-efficient solution than Amazon Services. When using FV Player Pro with this add-on, your videos would be stored on DigitalOcean Spaces and distributed by BunnyCDN.

    You can learn more about the various methods of protection against downloading here: https://foliovision.com/player/securing-your-video/protecting-video-from-downloading.

    If you’d like to consult these options further, don’t hesitate to reach out to us via our support forums: https://foliovision.com/support.

    Thanks,
    Chiara

    To be precise, Reza, the advanced DRM features and the Coconut integration are included as part of FV Player Pro. If you are creating paid courses, we recommend the pro version for DRM as well as the advanced searchable transcript features.

    Thanks, Alec

    thank you for your reply

    I am not using Amazon for hosting my videos so I can not use coconut with fvplayer

    and I am using a local video on demand provider with sends HLS stream to my website
    they have a kind of secure link feature

    and I am not sure is it possible to use it with fvplayer or not

    Hello reza10,

    FV Player Coconut works with DigitalOcean Spaces and BunnyCDN out of the box. The pricing of these services is just a fraction of the AWS pricing.

    You said you are using some different streaming provider who could give you at least a very basic protection with secure links:

    We do support different secure links (or URL token) providers in FV Player Pro:

    * BunnyCDN
    * StackPath
    * AWS CloudFront
    * KeyCDN

    (AWS S3 and DigitalOcean Spaces is supported in the free FV Player.)

    With FV Player Pro you can also implement your own secure link mechanism (to support your local VOD provider), here’s our example code to give programmers a fast start on the integration: https://gist.github.com/foliovision/d60446dbb207b10bbbc20ecf49dfbbec

    And finally, with FV Player Pro you can use it with HLS streams thanks to its Stream Loader feature – since HLS m3u8 files are static, we process them to include the URL tokes for video segments.

    But this level of protection wouldn’t be nearly as good as the encrypted HLS streaming.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Martin,

    Is there a proc-cons article that compare AWS vs DigitalOcean from FV Player point of view?
    Currently I’m on AWS with encrypted HLS.

    Thanks,
    Edward

    Hello Edward,

    thank you for the question!

    We do not have such an general comparison article. That being said, most of our materials on FV Player Coconut mention the differences between FV Player Coconut and AWS.

    The main differences are the ease of use and pricing.

    As for the quality of services, it is nearly indistinguishable. Also, both AWS and the services included in FV Player Coconut work equally well with FV Player.

    The whole FV Player Coconut workflow is drastically cheaper than using AWS. We are currently working on a pricing comparison article, including other possible services too, and it will be out soon.

    As for the ease of usage, the idea behind FV Player Coconut is to give our users a easily operated workflow right in their WordPress. Also, the independence and being able to switch services instead of having to use one company for everything are an important part of it. FV Player Pro is based on hosting via DigitalOcean Spaces, CDN via Bunny CDN and encoding via Coconut.co. All of these are brought together in a simple plugin.

    Since you use AWS, you probably already know that wrapping ones head around the complex and confusing usage of Amazon Web Services is no easy feat. So, we aim to spare our users the headache while keeping the self-hosting independence, and all that at a very reasonable price.

    As for hosting on DigitalOcean Spaces in particular versus hosting on S3, again, the quality and compatibility with FV Player is just the same, but also the prices are nearly the same in this department. That is because DOS has a $5 base fee which gives you up to 250GB, which would already be $5.75 on S3. Then each additional GB is $0.01 cheaper than AWS too. So ultimately, DOS is cheaper than S3, just not all that much. The service is also much easier to set up and operate.

    If you decide to go from AWS to FV Player Coconut, you do not need to worry about it being too much work. You can easily migrate your already existing video library via our migration wizard.

    Hope this has helped you. Let me know, if you have any other questions.

    Making the web work for you,
    Maria
