I am searching for a safe plug-in that allows downloading files, only when logged in have rights to do so. Wehen not logged in, the file download url may never be active. Is this plug-in supporting that?

    Hello @timgorter8105,

Thank you for reaching out to us. We are delighted to provide you with assistance.

The functionality you are requesting is a fundamental feature of File Manager. With our plugin, you have the ability to control access to folders and files, ensuring that only logged-in/non-logged users can perform specific actions such as downloading, uploading, editing, deleting, and managing files etc.

To achieve this, you can create a shortcode specifically for logged-in users and apply it to the desired page where you want to grant access. By doing so, only users who are logged in will be able to view and interact with the file manager on that particular page.

Alternatively, you may also apply user restrictions/User role restrictions for similar controls.

You can visit our website for more details about file manager.

If you have any further questions or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at [email protected]. We are always here to assist you.

    Best Regards,

Thanks support team for your reply. Though I still have a few questions on the functionality.

    1. Where are uploaded and downloadable files stored? Is this outside the standard media library/folders?

    2. Does your functionality/plugin prevent scraper sites from scraping the “downloadable files”.

    3. Once a user is logged out, is it still possible to download the file once the download url is stored?

    4. Are the short codes linked to php code to interact with download functionality (depending on the type of user and its rights)
or are the shortcodes linked straight to url’s (in the media library)?

    5. Are there any screenshots of a video available? E.g. to show the front end for a visitor download page?

    6. We’d like to experience the specific functions. Do we need to purchase the Pro version straight away or is there a demo site avalable?

I very much appreciate your additional info.
    Have a nice day!

    Hey @timgorter8105

We are glad to assist you further.
Getting back to your questions. We will answer them in the same order.

    1. With File Manager, You can manage files and folders. You can change settings and set it according to your choice of where to put files. You can enable or disable the option of directly adding files to the media library.

    2. File Manager focuses on helping you manage your files and it doesn’t control/regulate access for scrapers and crawlers.

    3. Yes, if the hosting server allows it, it is possible for a user to download a file using the stored download URL even after they have logged out. The accessibility of the download URL depends on the server configuration and any access restrictions that may be set up on the hosting server.

    4. Yes, shortcodes are typically linked to PHP code that interacts with the download functionality based on the type of user and their rights.
The PHP code associated with the shortcode is responsible for handling the necessary logic and permissions or performing any other desired functionality.
Shortcodes are NOT directly linked to URLs in the media library.

    5. We have different theme options for the WP File Manager. You can see the interface. Please check the below screenshots links.
    Screenshot 1: Dark Theme – https://tinyurl.com/2zx7266b

    Screenshot 2: Light Theme – https://tinyurl.com/2h7otaah

Screenshot 3: Windows 10 theme with labels enabled https://tinyurl.com/2nh224ao

    6. You can download and use the free version from the WordPress repo here – https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-file-manager/
If you wish to use specific functionality like show File Manager on the front-end pages with shortcodes then you are required to upgrade to the pro version of the plugin.
Unfortunately, We don’t have any demo/trial version of the plugin available at this moment.
We can discuss this in detail. Please send us an email at [email protected]
