• Hey everyone,

I’ve already came across a few approaches for this issue but I’m not quite sure if there are any other solutions out there worth considgering:

A client of mine wants to protect some of the data (PDF, XLS, DOC, …) they make accessable to their clients; this of course is no problem with the WordPress password protected pages. However, I can access the data without any password knowing the full URL of the files. This data even will be listed by Google, if I don’t set the pages on noindex. Is it possible to protect all data from the media folder or even single files, so they’re not open to everyone?

The following approaches I’ve already heard of:
how to protect media library /uploads folder within a membership site
    Protect media files (Tinypass)

    Thanks in advance!

I feel most secure having the files in a separate directory that is password protected by the operating system.

Sounds like a good plan; is there any plugin supporting upload via WordPress backend to this protected folder?
